Lying & Trust in Relationships
Understand dishonesty, boundaries, repair, and when trust needs more than reassurance.
Start with the pattern, not the stereotype
Dishonesty is a behavior, not a male trait. The important questions are what happened, whether it is recurring, how consequential it is, and whether accountability follows.
A more useful way to respond
Trust repair usually requires truthful disclosure, ownership of impact, changed behavior, appropriate boundaries, and enough time for consistency to become observable.
Questions worth asking
- What specific behavior changed, and when?
- What do I know directly versus what am I assuming?
- Have we clearly discussed what each of us needs?
- Is this a one-time reaction or a repeated pattern?
- Do the next actions match the explanation being given?
