Why He Goes Quiet
Stress, conflict, uncertainty, and other reasons a partner may become less communicative.
Start with the pattern, not the stereotype
Emotional distance can have many causes: stress, conflict avoidance, uncertainty, need for regulation, changing interest, or problems unrelated to the relationship.
A more useful way to respond
Instead of diagnosing the cause from silence alone, clarify what has changed, what each person needs, and when you will reconnect.
Questions worth asking
- What specific behavior changed, and when?
- What do I know directly versus what am I assuming?
- Have we clearly discussed what each of us needs?
- Is this a one-time reaction or a repeated pattern?
- Do the next actions match the explanation being given?
Safety note: General relationship guidance is not a substitute for professional support. If a relationship involves threats, coercion, stalking, violence, or immediate danger, prioritize appropriate local safety resources rather than trying to solve the situation through better communication alone.
